The Los Angeles Clippers were able to snag Branden Dawson as one of the last picks in the 2015 NBA Draft. Now, the former Michigan State standout is looking to show teams what they passed up on.

There were 55 players selected before Dawson in the draft, but there’s no way all of them are better than him. Dawson seems to have taken the snub to heart and is taking it out on his opponents in the Summer League.

He was one of the shining stars at the Orlando Summer League, averaging 12.8 points, 10.3 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.3 blocks per game. He also shot 52.2 percent from the floor. In the opening game, Dawson recorded 14 points and 14 rebounds, showing his chops at both ends of the floor.

Dawson’s stellar play has led to him officially signing a contract with the Clippers. Don’t think that just because Dawson has signed means that he won’t still have that chip resting comfortably on his shoulder. He still has to prove that he can compete with the best the NBA has to offer. Throughout his career at Michigan State, Dawson was one of the fiercest competitors in all of college basketball and that has carried over this summer.

Dawson brings so much to the Clippers organization. His strong defensive presence should well complement that of DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin. He’s also a big-time athlete like Jordan and Griffin, so expect him to be the newest member of Lob City.

What Dawson should be most revered for is his toughness and energy. He has the potential to be for the Clippers what his former Spartans teammate Draymond Green has been for the Golden State Warriors.

Expect Dawson to continue to make the Clippers’ front office look like geniuses for buying their way into the second round.
