Golden State Warriors' Draymond Green Enjoyed Championship Parade Too Much

Golden State Warriors forward (and sometimes center) Draymond Green recently attended the Gatorade High School Athlete of the Year awards as a presenter, and he was one of four sportsmen to give Kyler Murray the trophy on the male side. The other three were J.J. Watt, DeMarco Murray and Landon Donovan, and that must’ve been surreal for Kyler to greet those four before his acceptance speech.

Green made himself available to the media during the event, and you could tell that he is still floating on a championship cloud. He admitted some embarrassment for his condition during the title parade while also expressing appreciation for his new contract with the Warriors.

“I’m sure a lot of people saw how my parade went. It was pretty bad. It was fun though,” Green said to ESPN’s Hannah Storm. “Going into the (free agency) situation, I didn’t want to meet with any other teams. I knew where I wanted to be.”

You could tell that the forward was honored to be at the event and excited to attend the ESPYs on the following evening, although his team did eventually miss out on the award for Best Team to the USWNT. Green is aiming to make the U.S. Olympic team eventually, and he got a little help in making that dream a reality with his recent selection to USA’s August minicamp in Las Vegas.

I like Green’s chances of making the team in 2016 because he has now proven his ability to guard opposing centers at a high level, and that makes his flexibility as a defender truly remarkable. The only guy in the league who can guard more positions than Green is LeBron James, which is pretty good company to be in. Even though Draymond might’ve embarrassed himself a little bit during the championship parade this summer, I bet he is hoping to attend another one next season.
