If any non-starter wants to know how to make a difference, they should look no further than what Andre Iguodala did for the Golden State Warriors during their championship run this past season. Iguodala became the first player to achieve NBA Finals MVP without actually making an appearance as a starter in every contest. Even though Iguodala was the difference maker in the series, the Warriors are right to bring him off the bench next season.

“We won 67 games with the group that we had. And we’ve got our core back, just about everybody’s back,” Warriors head coach Steve Kerr told the Mercury News. “And more than likely we’ll play it the same way. But you never know how things go. We’ll see. But the good thing is we’re capable of playing a lot of different ways with a lot of different combinations, as we showed throughout the season.”

Despite Iguodala failing to appear in the starting lineup during the regular season, one can only assume that will change in 2015-16. Sure, Kerr wants to keep the starting lineup as similar as possible, rightfully so. However, Iguodala also proved that he could have a major impact as a starter on the game’s biggest stage. Obviously, it is a good problem to have for Golden State.

The best part about Kerr’s decision-making process is Iguodala is all about helping the team in any way he can. After starting every single game of his career, he took a reserve role with the Warriors last season. Even though his personal numbers took a dip, the result was a smashing success for the team. More importantly, it led to the franchise’s first championship in decades.

Whether Iguodala appears in the starting lineup or continues to come off the bench, it is quite clear Golden State will be one of the favorites to win it all again next season.
