Let’s not kid ourselves here, the San Antonio Spurs will be the team to beat not only in the Western Conference but in the NBA.
Sure, Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors are going to have something to say about the above statement, as they are the defending champions. But, if you look at the Spurs’ roster, you can’t help but put them as the favorites.
To be truthful, San Antonio was going to be tough this year even if they didn’t land the star of the 2015 free agent class, LaMarcus Aldridge. But his addition no doubt puts them at the top of the NBA. The Spurs have depth at every position, and their talent level is one that many teams around the NBA cannot match.
Now that’s not to say the Spurs won’t stumble a little early in the season, as they have to jell with the new additions. Rest assured, once December rolls around San Antonio will be off and running, and nobody will catch them — not even the Warriors.
Why do I feel so confident saying this? Because I watched their offseason, and without a doubt, they were the big winners. In addition to landing Aldridge, the Spurs convinced David West to come to the Alamo City. In my opinion, he was the steal of the offseason. And don’t overlook the addition of Ray McCallum, who has the skills to be the primary backup to Tony Parker.
This team is just too strong all around, and that’s why the Spurs will walk away with the crown in 2015-16.
