The New York Knicks looked great last night in their opener against the depleted Milwaukee Bucks. They gave fans plenty of reasons to be excited. There was great ball movement, something that was never said about the Knicks last year, and a bad game from Carmelo Anthony which ended in a win. Here are the five biggest reasons why Knicks fans should be excited for this season.

Over the summer, Derek Fisher claimed that he wanted to run in the fast break, but it's easy to say that. The Knicks put their fast break attack on display last night as Derrick Williams was incredible. The only negative? When starter Jose Calderon comes into the game they have to slow down.

Porzingis was expected to need at least a year to develop. Instead, he was starting on opening night. Not only did he start, but he finished with 16 points and five rebounds. Despite poor shooting (3-of-11 FG), he was able to produce in other ways and most importantly bounced back from a difficult start. Porzingis is no star yet, but he continued to show potential.

It's amazing that this guy was buried on the Orlando bench. Since the first game of the preseason he has shown how badly he wanted to burst into a rotation. He has definitely earned it in New York. He was a beast on the boards last night and is the kind of player who will immediately endear himself to Knicks fans.

2. Derrick Williams' Scoring

Williams has played beyond New York's wildest dreams. He was basically a throw-in signing with the likes of Arron Afflalo and Robin Lopez. He was their best player in the preseason and he was great again last night. If the Knicks continue their uptempo attack, there is no reason to think Williams can't keep up his play. He needs to stay on the bench, though. He belongs in the sixth man role.

Despite his shooting performance last night, Carmelo Anthony looked great in the preseason. He is saying all the right things and is at the center of this newfound bonding of this Knicks team. The bench is pumped on every play. Maybe most importantly, Melo looks excited to be out there for the first time in awhile.
