Garrett Temple has never been known for his offense, but instead his defense kept him solidified as one of the league’s most consistent backup shooting guards. That has all changed this season with the Washington Wizards, as the rest of the NBA has seen his transformation into a two-way player who is deadly at both ends of the floor.

On back-to-back nights, Temple broke his career high in points while scoring 21 points to lead the Wizards to a 109-101 victory against the Charlotte Hornets and then 23 more two nights later to defeat Rajon Rondo and the Sacramento Kings. It is no surprise that when Temple started to show how talented he can be on offense, Washington began to get back on track.

In the 24 games Temple has played in this season, he has started seven due to Bradley Beal‘s injuries, but teams have been able to sag off him to give more help for whoever was guarding John Wall. They thought his three-point shot was inconsistent or he was not confident enough to shoot the open jumper, but now, things have changed.

When the Wizards face the Memphis Grizzlies tonight, Courtney Lee and Vince Carter are going to have to play tight defense on Temple to respect his shot. If not, it can be expected for the former LSU star to have himself another career night, with the possibility for another career high.

Now that Temple has proven he can play both sides of the ball, open shots will be there more often for teammates and Washington will have a weapon at every spot on the floor. The league needs to watch out, because the Wizards are hot and their streak will not be stopping anytime soon with Temple’s newly discovered offensive game.
