Klay Thompson And The Most Overrated U.S. Olympic Basketball Team Finalists

USA Basketball recently announced the names of 30 finalists who could make the 12-man roster for the upcoming Olympics in Rio de Janeiro this summer. To be honest, there are quite a few overrated players in the mix. Here are five guys who undoubtedly fall into that category.

5. Rudy Gay - SF - Sacramento Kings

I find it hard to believe Team USA will end up selecting Rudy Gay. I mean, showcasing an inconsistent wing scorer who thinks playing defense is optional on an international stage doesn't make an incredible amount of sense.

4. Bradley Beal - SG - Washington Wizards

With guys like Jimmy Butler, James Harden and DeMar DeRozan as finalists, Bradley Beal doesn't stand a chance of making Team USA. Beal can score the ball well, but is inadequate in essentially every other facet of the game. Perhaps one day Beal will represent his country in the Olympics, but he still needs a ton of seasoning prior to it coming to fruition.

3. Gordon Hayward - SF - Utah Jazz

Gordon Hayward's been overwhelmingly inconsistent this season, and seems to have forgotten how to grab a rebound. With Kevin Durant and Kawhi Leonard as shoo-ins to make the 12-man roster, it's highly unlikely that Hayward will be chosen. And that's a huge relief.

2. Klay Thompson - SG - Golden State Warriors

Klay Thompson can score at an elite level, but that's about the only part of his game which deserves to be seen by the masses in the Olympics. With guys like Jimmy Butler (who is the best two-way shooting guard in the world) and James Harden (who doesn't play defense, but is a much more efficient scorer) as finalists, Thompson will thankfully not make the 12-man roster.

1. Kenneth Faried - PF - Denver Nuggets

Kenneth Faried is the definition of a 'Jekyll and Hyde' type player. He can look like one of the most dominant big men in the world one day, and pull a vanishing act the next. Thankfully, LaMarcus Aldridge, Blake Griffin and Draymond Green all have much better chances of making the team at power forward.
