Indiana Pacers' Myles Turner On Collision Course With Stardom

By Jason Fletcher

The Indiana Pacers began the 2015-16 NBA Season looking like one of the surprise teams in the league. Unfortunately, Paul George has hit a bit of a wall over recent weeks, which has led to a downturn for the Pacers. They are now 23-20 following their latest loss to the Golden State Warriors and sit in the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference, only two games ahead of the No. 9 New York Knicks.

Despite the team’s recent struggles, Pacers GM Kevin Pritchard has found his team another star to pair with George in rookie Myles Turner.

After appearing in eight of the team’s first nine games of the season, Turner missed 21 games due to a thumb injury. In his first 10 games back, he struggled to earn regular minutes from head coach Frank Vogel. However, thanks to Ian Mahinmi‘s ankle injury, Turner has received 29, 31 and 28 minutes, and has produced in a big way by averaging 23.6 PPG, 6.3 RPG and 2.6 BLKPG.

Turner boasts an impressive repertoire as he can post up, hit the turnaround jumper, knock down 18-20 foot jumpers and play above the rim. He’s a fearless rebounder and will bang inside, as evidenced by his impressive block totals. With a little more refinement to his game, Turner could easily overtake George as the face of the Pacers in the future.

While the Pacers still could stand to add another scorer or two prior to the trade deadline, Turner bursting onto the scene is a major development for an organization devoid of young talent.
