Rajon Rondo Is Sacramento Kings' Most Pleasant Surprise At 2015-16 Halfway Point

By Brendan Patel

The Sacramento Kings took a chance when they signed Rajon Rondo this offseason. They needed a quality point guard who could get make plays for the scorers on the roster, as well as someone who had won in the past. Rondo has shown the skills of an elite playmaker, but in recent years has not been as productive. He has had trouble with coaches and had his effort questioned multiple times. He seems to be set on proving himself this year, as he is more focused and playing at a high level.

Rondo has always been best with the ball in his hands and has done a good job of running the offense for the Kings this year. There were some early struggles for the team, but recently they have been playing much better and have the potential to compete for a playoff spot. He is averaging over 11 assists a game, while also grabbing over six rebounds per contest. His shooting percentages are still not great, but they are an improvement from last season as he is averaging almost 12 points a game.

Rondo has the ability to be one of the top point guards in the league when he is locked in and fully committed to the team. He is capable of leading an offense and making everyone around him better, including getting the best out of his star teammates. He has won before and can use his experience to help be a leader in the locker room. He can lock down opposing players when he wants to and is one of the players who can elevate his game to unbelievable levels when the stakes are high. The Kings will need Rondo to keep playing at a high level if they are to make the playoffs this year.
