Sacramento Kings Would Be Crazy To Trade DeMarcus Cousins At Deadline

By Brendan Patel

The Sacramento Kings are on the outside looking in for the playoff picture, and could be facing another tough offseason should they fail to make the postseason again. They have continued to try to improve their roster while building around their star center, but have struggled to compete consistently. They have shown signs of improvement over the past couple of season, but injuries and inconsistent play have hurt them at the wrong times. They might need to make another coaching change or go another route with their roster, but they should not trade DeMarcus Cousins before the deadline.

Cousins has had his attitude questioned many times since becoming a pro, but his ability to play basketball has never been in doubt. He is arguably the most skilled center in the league, and can dominate games with his ability to score. He has a good outside shot that even extends out to the perimeter. He has great hands that allow him to make difficult catches in traffic, and is a strong finisher around the basket. It is hard to double team him because he is such a good passer, and can get the offense going when everyone else is struggling.

His quick hands on defense allow him to get plenty of blocks and steals, and make it difficult for his opponents. He already has great size, making him a formidable presence in the paint. He can help on perimeter players if necessary, while also being able to battle against other big men down low. His unique attributes make him a very capable rebounder, and he has one of the top per-game averages in the league.

Cousins has grown a lot since being drafted, and he is currently one of the best players at his position. The Kings have had trouble attracting top talent, and there is no reason to give up on their star player so early. They must try to find different ways to build around him, as he is a true difference maker on the court, and plays on a very team-friendly contract. There are moves that the organization should consider before the deadline, but trading Cousins is not one of them.
