Devin Booker Deserves More Playing Time For Phoenix Suns In Second Half Of 2015-16

By Brendan Patel

Devin Booker entered the league at a young age, and it wasn’t quite clear how much he would be able to contribute in his first season. He was joining a roster with two promising guards already in place, as well as a couple of wing players with more experience. Still, Booker’s shooting ability was well-known, and he had enough potential to be drafted high in the first round. The Phoenix Suns have had their fair share of trouble so far this season, but they have to be happy with Booker and should continue to give him more minutes in the second half of the season.

Booker did not receive much playing time the first couple of months, but an injury to Eric Bledsoe opened up a starting spot and he is now receiving heavy minutes. Booker clearly has a place in this league, as there is a heavy emphasis on shooting and he has shown that he can be one of the top sharpshooters in the league. He is shooting over 40 percent from deep, and is very comfortable playing next to a ball-dominant point guard.

Booker still has a lot to improve on his game, but his first season has shown a lot of promise. He has good size at shooting guard, and can become a decent defender if he puts in the effort. With more work in the offseason, he can develop his offensive game even more and become a more versatile weapon. The sky is the limit for Booker, and he will only get better as the season continues.

Booker is a good fit for the Suns, even though they continue to struggle as a team. In today’s game, you can never have enough quality shooters, and Booker is quickly becoming one of the better shooters in the league. He creates space for his teammates, and opponents must be aware of him at all times. The team should continue to give him more minutes as they look to figure out their future.
