Phoenix Suns Would Be Crazy To Trade Brandon Knight At Deadline

By Brendan Patel

The Phoenix Suns had to make a move when Goran Dragic wanted to find a new team last year, and could find themselves movers again at this year’s deadline. They have failed to live up to expectations so far this season, and had to let go of a coach who might have lost the locker room. They have been an exciting team to watch in the past, but now may have to start rebuilding around a young core. One player that the team should not give up on just yet is Brandon Knight.

Knight came over to the Suns in a trade last season, and there was hope that he would form a dynamic backcourt with Eric Bledsoe. They had some trouble figuring out their best fit together, but both have enough talent to make it work. They bring different skill sets to the table, and the addition of Devin Booker gives them a formidable rotation at the guard position. There is also the concern that Bledsoe is injury-prone, and having another quality point guard on the roster doesn’t hurt.

As the salary cap skyrockets, Knight’s contract will become even more team-friendly, and he will be a valuable asset in future years. The team could decide to keep him and help him develop, as he is still very young. He is a good point guard with the ability to create his own shot, and is more than capable of getting his teammates involved. He has good size and enough athleticism to be an impact player, and his value will only increase.

The Suns should hold onto Knight for now and see if they can make it work with their guards. It is not always easy to find playmakers, and the Suns are fortunate to have a couple on their roster. If it does not work out, then the Suns could look to move Knight in the future, where his team-friendly contract and youth would generate a lot of interest among other teams. The Suns would be wise to hold off on trading Knight at this year’s deadline.
