Rondae Hollis-Jefferson Deserves More Playing Time For Brooklyn Nets In Second Half Of 2015-16

By Brendan Patel

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson entered the league as an extremely raw prospect, but one with enough intangibles to make an immediate impact. He found a spot in the rotation with the Brooklyn Nets, who have had plenty of problems throughout the season. Unfortunately for Hollis-Jefferson, an injury has kept him out for several months now, and has slowed down his development. When he is able to return, the Nets need to give him as many minutes as possible, as he is a key building block to the future.

Hollis-Jefferson is not a very good shooter, and still has to develop his offensive game. However, he is the type of player who every coach wants on their roster. Even with his limitations on offense, Hollis-Jefferson finds ways to have a meaningful impact on the game, and makes winning plays for his team.

He is a fierce competitor who plays hard every minute, and his intensity can fire up his teammates. He is a very good athlete with good size on the perimeter, and uses his speed to his advantage. He can get out in the open floor and make plays filling the wing, and is strong when attacking the basket. He has already proven that he can be a very good rebounder, and is relentless when going after the ball. Defensively is where he is most valuable, as he can match up with any of the perimeter positions and even some power forwards. He uses his long arms to generate turnovers, and has the potential to be a lockdown defender in the future.

Hollis-Jefferson needs to focus on getting healthy, but once he returns he should see plenty of minutes for the struggling Nets. The organization does not have a lot of young prospects, and they need to focus on developing what they have. Hollis-Jefferson needs more time on the court so that he can improve on his game, and should be playing heavy minutes for the team.
