Chicago Bulls Need To Focus On Health In 2015-16 Stretch Run

By Frank Ewere

The Chicago Bulls have a 33-32 record and are currently sitting at the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference playoff race. Although that would guarantee them a spot in the playoffs, they are also just a few percentage points away from the 10th place Washington Wizards. The Bulls can’t afford to rest players while fighting for a playoff spot, but at the same time, health is still a big issue for the team.

Derrick Rose has had his fair share of injuries in his career. Unfortunately, he has a left adductor strain right now which isn’t good news for Bulls fans. He will always have flashes of brilliance, but it is becoming more and more obvious that he will never be the player he once was.

The worst news for the Bulls this season has been the injuries that have hit star Jimmy Butler. He was selected as an All-Star yet again this season, but unfortunately, he had to miss the game due to injury. Butler is having a career year in terms of points (22.2) and assists per game (4.3), but he has been forced to miss 15 games due to his injuries.

Butler and Rose aren’t the only players who have been injured for the Bulls this season. Joakim Noah is out for the season after a shoulder injury, and Mike Dunleavy had back surgery at the beginning of the season. Pau Gasol will also miss a few games because of a knee injury, so clearly health has not been the Bulls’ friend this season.

Unless head coach Fred Hoiberg gets his bench to start playing at an unexpectedly high level, he might need to think about the future and rest some his better players. The Bulls won’t win a championship this season, but they could lose a chance at winning a title for years to come.
