5 Players Who Won't Be On Philadelphia 76ers In 2016-17 NBA Season

By Brad Berreman

The perpetual rebuild for the Philadelphia 76ers has continued this season, with a league-worst 9-60 record entering Sunday’s action. With the potential of two very early picks in June’s draft, here are five players who won’t be back with the 76ers next season.

5. PF Elton Brand

Brand was signed in January to be a mentor for a young team, not contribute on the floor, and that has come to fruition with just 62 minutes of action over six games played thus far. If he's back with the 76ers next season, it would be a big surprise.

4. F Carl Landry

Landry had a nice run recently, scoring in double figures over at least 25 minutes of action in four of five games from Mar. 6-Mar. 15. But he's gone back to a reserve role over the last two games, and even though he's due a guaranteed $6.5 million next season, it's hard to see Landry back for a second season in Philadelphia.

Thomson has had a reasonably productive season (9.4 points and 3.5 rebounds per game), and he has scored in double figures in six of the last seven games. His team option for next season is reasonable ($1.015 million), but it would not be shocking if the 76ers decline it.

2. G/F Sonny Weems

Philadelphia needed to get to the salary cap floor, so they claimed Weems off waivers from the Phoenix Suns earlier this month. It's possible he gets a lot of playing time from here on out as the 76ers tank games again, but Weems should be able to find an opportunity elsewhere for next season.

1. PG Kendall Marshall

Last season's torn ACL while playing for Milwaukee delayed the start of Marshall's season, and he's barely played in 21 games (five starts) for the 76ers (13.6 minutes per game). The remaining three years of the four-year deal the 76ers signed Marshall to last offseason are not guaranteed, so a parting of ways should be coming.
