Miami Heat Fans Need To Get Over Their LeBron James Obsession

By Richard Nurse

The line between bandwagon hopping and giving credit where it is due is a thin one. So when readers see pundits and fans praising the Miami Heat‘s late-season success, it is hard to tell what is genuine or just a result of the hottest new team to hitch a ride on trend.

Regardless of which side others fall on, true Heat fans are running the risk of finding themselves falling victim to missing out on the excitement of a season that could have been the sequel of last year’s gloom and doom following the loss of Chris Bosh to another blood clot scare. Reason being because some of them choose to spend their time wrapped up in whatever situation feels like the downfall of LeBron James.

They revel in every loss game, unfollow and veiled tweet, to the point where the words “he gone” has become the hashtag of choice to voice their hope that James bolts on the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Almost two full seasons removed from his departure, James still has many fans acting like the scorned other. Sure they are mad that he left them after four straight trips to the NBA Finals, but it’s as if they forget how hard they preached for the rights of a player to have his free agency “decisions” respected after “the King” stood the Cavaliers up on national television.

None of that should blind fans to what has been one of the most aesthetically fun seasons for the Heat in Pat Riley’s 21 years with the franchise. Not only are they winning, they get out and run and celebrate each other on the sidelines in a way that was not even done during the Big Three era — save for championship parades or viral Harlem shake videos.

Fans need to enjoy all of the cheesy nicknames and camaraderie and only release their animosity if the world gets the Heat-Cavaliers playoff series that has been over a decade in the making.
