Orlando Magic Need To Focus On Getting Aaron Gordon Experience In 2015-16 Stretch Run

By Brendan Patel

Aaron Gordon entered the league as an extremely raw prospect, but one with a lot of potential to develop. He is an extremely athletic player with a great work ethic, and the sky is the limit for him. He plays hard on the court, and even with his current struggles shooting the ball, he makes plenty of plays that do not show up in the box score. Gordon has the talent to develop, and the Orlando Magic need to focus on getting him more experience to close out the season.

Gordon made a name for himself during the Slam Dunk contest, displaying his explosiveness and off the charts athleticism. He has used his gifts well thus far, already showing the ability to develop into a lockdown defender. He can close out opponents who appear to have an open shot, flying at them from out of nowhere. He is quick enough to keep up on the perimeter and shows great anticipation. Maybe most impressively, Gordon has the desire to be a great defender, and he takes it upon himself to compete.

Offensively, Gordon still has a long way to go and needs more experience at the professional level. His shot needs a lot of work, but he is already finding other ways to contribute. He attacks the offensive glass often, and his ability to finish high above the rim is a concern for opponents. He may never be an elite scorer, but he can develop the tools to be an effective one.

The Magic have a lot of young talent, but Gordon may have the highest ceiling on the roster. He has already shown his elite athleticism, and he is still extremely young. He must continue to work hard, but with more experience he should only get better.
