5 Players Who Won't Be On Washington Wizards In 2016-17 NBA Season

By Dave Daniels

The Washington Wizards are trying to clear cap room this summer for someone you might have heard of. His name is Kevin Durant, and his contract will run out this offseason. He’ll have no shortage of suitors, but the one thing Washington has going for them is that Durant grew up in the area. It would be an easier sell if they make the playoffs, but here are some players the Wizards won’t be re-signing, to create financial flexibility.

5. Nene

You can only start one big man in today's NBA, and Nene will unfortunately be a victim of that. The Wizards are paying him way too much for a player averaging less than 20 minutes per game. It would be fun seeing him return to the Denver Nuggets, but he could also end up on a team like the Sacramento Kings.

4. Jared Dudley

Jared Dudley is Washington's best 3-point shooter by percentage, but he occupies the same position as Durant on the court. Is adding Kevin to the Wizards a long shot? Absolutely, but it is a chance they must take. Dudley will be able to find a home again with the Milwaukee Bucks or Phoenix Suns.

3. Alan Anderson

Alan Anderson is making a boatload of cash for a guy who has only appeared in nine games this season, and Washington would be smart to let him walk. Anderson won't be missed by the Wizards, because his production has been mainly a disappointment over the last year.

2. Drew Gooden

Drew Gooden hasn't proven to be a good 3-point shooter for a big man, and the Wizards won't be able to afford him this offseason. Gooden's NBA career might be coming to an end. They have a team option on him, and they'll look for a different guy to back up their power forwards next year.

1. Ramon Sessions

Ramon Sessions was signed to spell John Wall, and he did a solid job of doing that. But the Wizards could probably scout out a player who'll take a minimum contract to do the same work, and Sessions can find a team to give him a more appealing salary. Both sides will likely be moving on as a result.
