Kobe Bryant Should Go Into Entertainment Or Advertising After Basketball

Kobe Bryant‘s basketball career is now over, and the Los Angeles Lakers will be a rudderless team for the foreseeable future. Kobe may never lace up his sneakers in a real NBA game again, but he still has a whole other life to live. What field will Bryant go into next? Coaching and media opportunities will certainly be available to him, but he seems like the kind of guy who wouldn’t enjoy the fit of those two jobs.

A couple of post-mortem articles about Kobe’s career have revealed some intriguing career paths that might be possible for him. He should seriously consider going into entertainment or advertising.

Bryant has apparently set up meetings in the past with artists like J.J. Abrams and J.K. Rowling, and it wouldn’t be that surprising if the former shooting guard became a producer or director. Acting isn’t an ideal fit for someone as stubborn as Kobe, but he has definitely gotten to know a lot of people in Hollywood over the last 20 years. Would it be that big of a stretch to see him produce a major film in the next five years? He has the money and contacts to make that happen.

Another avenue that might be interesting for “The Black Mamba” to dabble in would be advertising. He trademarked “Friends Hang Sometimes Banners Hang Forever” earlier this season, and he would’ve majored in that field during college.

“I’ve studied advertising for years,” Bryant said to ESPN. “I wrote 90 percent of my own commercials.”

Kobe is one of the most fascinating athletes of his generation, and he won’t become less captivating in his post-basketball career. He toyed with a lot of professions in the last 20 years. He could’ve played the lead in “He Got Game” directed by Spike Lee, and Kobe also released a rap video with Tyra Banks that he likely wishes never happened. Whatever Bryant decides to do will be followed closely, and he will certainly continue to entertain us no matter what.
