Reggie Miller Claims TNT Crew Could Beat The Memphis Grizzlies, Zach Randolph Responds

By Jason Fletcher

Reggie Miller has been calling the Western Conference First Round playoff series between the Memphis Grizzlies and San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs are up 2-0 with both games resulting in blowouts, and this prompted Miller to claim that the TNT television crew could take down the Grizzlies.

Due to injuries, the Grizzlies have been forced to use an NBA-record 28 players this season, and they’ve been without leading scorers Marc Gasol and Mike Conley for a large portion of the season. It’s forced them into signing guys like Jordan Farmar, Xavier Munford and Jarell Martin off the street and giving them large roles just in order to have enough bodies to play.

It’s truly remarkable that the Grizzlies were even able to make the playoffs, and it should be seen as a major accomplishment as opposed to something to be mocked, or at least that’s what forward Zach Randolph believes.

“I heard that,” Randolph told Geoff Calkins of The Commercial Appeal. “For what all we’ve been through, and all the injuries, and not having our team at full strength, we still got a group of young guys that have played hard for us. And we go out every night as veterans and play hard every night. That’s all you can ask for, if you ask me.”

Randolph added:

“I know he was probably joking, but we work hard and we’ve been through a lot,” Randolph said of Miller’s comments. “We’re not whining or nothing. We go out every night and play hard with what we got.”

I agree with Randolph. Sure, the Grizzlies have lost the first two games against the Spurs by a combined 58 points and they’re likely to be swept in four games, but they’re out there working hard and trying to do the best with what they have. It’s not their fault that they’re severely overmatched.
