Ads are prevalent on soccer jerseys around the world, and among the major North American sports leagues the NBA was first in line to announce it will allow ads on jerseys. There had to be a team that was first to make a deal to put ads on their jerseys, and the Philadelphia 76ers have reportedly agreed to a deal with StubHub.

The three-year deal will start with the 2017-18 season, and it makes perfect sense for a ticket re-seller to put an ad on a jersey. Any concern about players becoming walking billboards can be set aside for now. But once a sponsor that has a distinctive logo reaches a deal with an NBA team, StubHub’s patch on 76ers’ jerseys might stand out based on its subtlety alone.
