San Antonio Spurs' Ideal Starting 5 For 2016-17 Season

A lot of what the San Antonio Spurs do this offseason depends on the future of Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili, as well as their plans for Tony Parker. They could free up enough cap space to make a run at Al Horford or Mike Conley, both of whom would be great fits with the current team, or even go after a veteran such as Pau Gasol. Players looking to win would likely be willing to take less money to join the Spurs, an advantage they have over most teams, and the increase in the salary cap could give them just enough room to sign an impact player.

If Parker isn’t on the roster next year, Conley would be an ideal replacement. He can get into the paint, is willing to move the ball on offense, and is a good defender. The team would need to free up cap space to make this work.

Shooting Guard – Danny Green

Green had a rough regular season, but he proved in the playoffs that his shooting and defense provide a huge boost for the Spurs. He can guard three different positions, and when he gets hot from deep, the Spurs are tough to beat.

Small Forward – Kawhi Leonard

Leonard proved that he is one of the best players in the league last season and continues to improve his game. He has gotten better at creating his own shot and is extremely efficient from deep. He is also arguably the best defender in the NBA.

Power Forward – LaMarcus Aldridge

Aldridge proved that he could adapt his game to fit in with the Spurs, and he's an elite player at power forward. He can score from the post or hit the midrange shot with consistency and is versatile enough on defense to guard multiple positions.

Gasol or Horford would be nice, but Noah is a much cheaper option because of injuries. Noah is a very good passer, can play both ends of the court, and makes winning plays with his hustle and desire. If he can stay healthy, it would be a huge pickup.
