San Antonio Spurs Must Sign Two Of These 5 Free Agents In 2016

The San Antonio Spurs are at a crossroads right now. They lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference semifinals this year, and Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili might retire this offseason. The bright side is that head coach Gregg Popovich has committed to staying through the length of LaMarcus Aldridge‘s contract, and the Spurs have become a coveted free agency destination due to their team philosophy and player development. These are some free agents they should go after this summer. If they can sign two of them, then we’ll be watching San Antonio in the postseason for a long time to come.

5. Pau Gasol

Pau Gasol had a frustrating season with the Chicago Bulls. He put up solid numbers, but it wasn't enough for the team to be in the playoffs. There have been chemistry issues between coach Fred Hoiberg and the players, and Gasol would like to move on.

4. Nicolas Batum

Nicolas Batum would have be a shooting guard for the Spurs, but he certainly wouldn't mind making that transition to be on a contender. He shouldn't remain with the Charlotte Hornets, because they aren't going anywhere in the long run.

3. Joakim Noah

If the Spurs can't get Chicago's best big man, then they might as well go for the second best. Joakim Noah might end up signing with his old head coach Tom Thibodeau and the Minnesota Timberwolves, but the Spurs would be an interesting spot for him.

2. Kevin Durant

It's widely assumed that Kevin Durant will return to Oklahoma City for one more season. If he leaves, though, then the Spurs and Warriors must both be taken seriously in free agency. Durant is the ultimate prize for every team this summer.

1. Mike Conley

If the Spurs pursue Mike Conley, then it would be a clear sign that Popovich has soured on Tony Parker. Conley would be an upgrade at point guard, and it should be fun to see where he lands. Marc Gasol would be devastated if his friend departs.
