Chicago Bulls Shouldn't Trade Derrick Rose To New York Knicks

By Dave Daniels

The New York Knicks are apparently interested in trading for Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose, but what would they be willing to give up? That is the real question for the Bulls.

The only players Chicago would want back in that exchange are Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis, and it doesn’t seem likely that the Knicks would trade either of those guys. Anthony actually has a no-trade clause, so he could block the move. If the Knicks included some first-rounders it might entice the Bulls a little bit, but would that be enough to boot their homegrown hero out of town? Not at all.

New York started Jose Calderon at point guard last year, and he was mainly a disappointment. He can shoot the three-pointer with efficiency, but he’s no longer capable of running an offense for 30 to 35 minutes every night.

Rose averaged 16.4 points and 4.7 assists per game in the 2015-16 season, and he is entering the final year of his contract. He might have the worst luck in the NBA when it comes to injuries, but he’s shown flashes of his MVP form in the past two campaigns.

The Bulls shouldn’t trade one of their top players for draft picks that probably won’t amount to anything. The bottom line is that Knicks president Phil Jackson has nothing of value to offer his former team, and Chicago should just walk away from the table on this one.
