Draymond Green Takes Full Blame For Golden State Warriors Losing NBA Finals

Draymond Green‘s suspension for Game 5 of the 2016 NBA Finals served as a turning point, paving the way for the Cleveland Cavaliers to make an historic comeback from a 3-1 deficit. After a gut-wrenching loss in Game 7, Green took the blame for the Golden State Warriors not capping off a record-setting regular season with a title.

“I mean, as you know, I blame myself for everything,” Green said Sunday. “That’s just who I am. I think as a leader that’s important. Hey, I’m not afraid to take the blame. I do think that’s where the series turned, but it happened. Move on from it.

“Like I said, I learned from it, and I’ll be better. But I’m not afraid to say that it’s my fault. I think it was.”

Green’s one-game absence, followed by a mediocre Game 6 when he returned, was a huge factor in the Warriors failing to seal the deal. But I point more toward the relative disappearing act, injury related or not, of Stephen Curry as the No. 1 reason why Golden State did not win a second straight title.
