5 Free Agents Boston Celtics Should Not Pursue In 2016 Offseason

The Boston Celtics are going to have a lot of money to play with this offseason. The team really needs to find a star, and whether or not they will be able to land one is a big question right now. If they cannot get a star, then they will need to be careful with their money. As a result, they should look to avoid paying any of the following players to play for them.

5. SF Kent Bazemore

Bazemore is a great player who would be a fit on the Celtics, but I feel like he is too similar to Jae Crowder to earn a spot on the team. The Celtics should focus on finding a player that gives them a different dimension to their squad.

4. SG Joe Johnson

Johnson would be a good addition to the Celtics’ bench, but at what cost? He will likely be slightly overpaid by some team and the Celtics are better off pursuing younger options than the 35-year-old veteran.

3. PF Ryan Anderson

Anderson is a talented player, but he will almost certainly be overpaid. If the Celtics brought him in, they would need him to be a starter that can be a third scoring option. I do not think he would fit like that, as he is best as a sixth man.

2. C Dwight Howard

At this stage in his career, Howard is best suited as a defensive minded center who can rebound. The Celtics need one of those, but not at Howard’s price tag. Whatever team signs him will be paying on past production, not future production.

1. G/F Harrison Barnes

The Celtics have a lot of cap space so they may pursue some restricted free agents. Still, Barnes should not be on their radar. He simply is not very good and does not have experience being a key part of an offense. He’s more of a role player.
