Dallas Mavericks' Dirk Nowitzki Wouldn't Make Sense On Golden State Warriors

Dirk Nowitzki has maintained that he wants to be with the Dallas Mavericks for his entire career, but the Golden State Warriors appear to have other ideas. Stephan Curry‘s squad recently fell to LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the most epic collapse of NBA Finals history.

Nowitzki might be tempted into playing for a contender given his age and the fact that Dallas is nowhere near a championship; however, he also seems like a player who is loyal to the people who have believed in him from the beginning. Owner Mark Cuban can definitely call himself a member of that camp, and that is why getting Dirk out of Dallas will prove to be more difficult than it looks.

The Warriors are right to shoot for the stars, though. Everyone thought that claiming the title would be easy for them after winning 73 games in the regular season. No team in NBA history has ever achieved that. But they don’t need to go after a power forward when they already have one of the league’s best in Draymond Green. The position they should really try to upgrade is small forward. Harrison Barnes wet the bed in the Finals. There is no other way around it, even if he is one of the nicest guys in the NBA.

If the Warriors have any shot whatsoever at Kevin Durant in free agency, then they must do everything in their power to secure him. The smart money is on Durant signing a one-year deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder and testing the water again next offseason, but the Warriors can’t take that as a foregone conclusion.

Nowitzki makes no sense for them considering his lack of defensive ability. That was where the NBA Finals were lost, because the Warriors as a team couldn’t find a way to contain James and Kyrie Irving. Durant would help that issue, and Nowitzki wouldn’t. The Warriors should be focusing on their weaknesses instead of adding a veteran who would only complicate matters next year.
