Washington Wizards PG John Wall Should Request A Trade

By Dave Daniels

John Wall should seriously consider his prospects with the Washington Wizards. They are a franchise going nowhere fast, and the PG must think about how long he wants to be involved with them. His running mate, Bradley Beal, has proven to be made of glass during their time together, and it might be best for both parties to play on different teams. Beal recently signed a contract extension, which might complicate matters even more for the Wizards.

Washington missed the playoffs this season, and free agent Kevin Durant, a native of the area, isn’t even granting them a courtesy interview. That looks pretty bad. If they had made any noise at all in the postseason, then this wouldn’t be the case.

The Wizards have struggled to find a big man who can put up solid numbers with Wall. Marcin Gortat is serviceable and knows how to get the PG open with physical screens, but “The Polish Hammer” lacks the touch and skill of other bigs in the league.

If the Wizards can somehow wrangle DeMarcus Cousins from the Sacramento Kings in the next year, then Wall should stay with them. However, if the Wizards can’t land another star player to pair with him in the near future, the point guard would be better off somewhere else.

It wouldn’t be out of the question for him to request a trade this offseason, because he still has three years left on his contract. There would be plenty of teams interested if the Wizards started shopping him. The Cleveland Cavaliers would’ve been a great spot for Wall if they had failed in the NBA Finals, but that ship sailed after Kyrie Irving‘s brilliant performance this postseason. John could be a fantastic fit on a team like the Dallas Mavericks or Boston Celtics, though, and he should ask the Wizards to give him freedom. They haven’t earned his trust yet, and he deserves the chance to play for a contender.
