Boston Celtics Spark Trade Rumors By Following Carmelo Anthony On Instagram

According to John Healy of the New York Daily News, the Boston Celtics followed New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony on Instagram on Monday evening, leading many to believe they are in the process of acquiring him in a blockbuster deal.

The Celtics fueled potential trade speculation on Twitter Monday night after the team’s Instagram account followed Knicks All-Star Carmelo Anthony.

With the NBA trade deadline just days away (3 p.m. Thursday) fans are becoming anxious on what will happen next.

Celtics All-Star Isaiah Thomas also posted what many believe was a cryptic tweet associated with the rumor.

Naturally, with the trade deadline now just over two days away, NBA Twitter has lost its collective mind.

The Celtics have been open about their desire to get Thomas some scoring help, and have been linked to other stars like Chicago Bulls swingman Jimmy Butler and Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin.

However, it’s likely going to take much more to acquire Butler or Griffin than it will for Anthony.

Boston heads into the unofficial second-half of the season as the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference at 37-20, just three games behind the ailing Cleveland Cavaliers, who are without Kevin Love and J.R. Smith for at least another month.

Thus, acquiring another All-Star could put the Celtics over the top. But overpaying would be foolish considering they are playing incredibly well as is.
