Houston Rockets Acquire Lou Williams From Los Angeles Lakers

By Timothy Downs

Magic Johnson took over as President of Basketball Operations of the Los Angeles Lakers earlier today, and isn’t wasting any time in reshaping Los Angeles’ roster.

According to multiple sources, the Lakers reportedly just sent veteran shooting guard Lou Williams to the Houston Rockets.

Los Angeles will receive journeyman forward Corey Brewer and a first-round pick.

Adding depth is always a good thing in the NBA, but this is still a somewhat puzzling move by Houston. Eric Gordon, who was just signed to a four-year deal over the offseason and is having an excellent campaign off the bench, plays the same role (scoring sixth-man) that Williams has throughout most of his career.

Sure, Williams is a better defender than Gordon, but defense isn’t exactly emphasized in Houston’s system.

The Rockets have been one of the biggest surprises of the 2016-17 NBA season thus far. No one expected Mike D’Antoni to succeed in Houston, yet the Rockets head into the unofficial second-half of the season as the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference at 40-18.
