NBA Legend Oscar Robertson Honors Russell Westbrook For Breaking His Triple-Double Record

By Timothy Downs

On Sunday, Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook shocked the masses by breaking the NBA‘s single-season record for triple doubles when he tallied his 42nd against the Denver Nuggets.

The record previously belonged to Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson, who accumulated 41 for the Cincinnati Royals (now the Sacramento Kings) during the 1961-62 season.

On Wednesday night, Robertson, 78, honored Westbrook prior to Oklahoma City’s final regular season game.

“When Russell was on this journey, I felt that I just had to be here,” Robertson said. “I think that what he has done has been historic in nature. He’s played with passion and pride and it’s outstanding what he’s done, the way he did it. You people should really be proud of him for his accomplishments. And I say congratulations again, and I only have one more thing to say: MVP!”

We’re. Not. Worthy.
