Cavaliers Rumors: Kyrie Irving Could Demand Trade If Lebron James Opts Out of Contract

By Jason Fletcher

Despite being the defending NBA Champions and running easily through the Eastern Conference, the Cleveland Cavaliers were torn apart in the NBA Finals by the Golden State Warriors.

With seemingly a wide margin between the top two teams in the NBA, the Cavaliers are in a bit of a tough spot as they know they need to add talent to contend with the Warriors, but they are also tight against the cap and have an unsettled future after next season.

LeBron James can opt out of his contract after next season and general manager David Griffin wanted to begin planning for the future this offseason in case James were to opt out. Instead, owner Dan Gilbert had no interest in hearing of a future without LeBron and he decided to let Griffin walk on Monday.

Now, the Cavaliers have another problem on their hands as rumors suggest Kyrie Irving will ask for a trade if he gets the sense that LeBron will opt out next summer.

Cleveland has been to three straight finals since LeBron returned and could now be facing a future without James, Irving, and Griffin.

Tough times for the three-time defending Eastern Conference champs.
