Hawks Wisely Trade Dwight Howard To Hornets For Miles Plumlee, Marco Belinelli

By Timothy Downs

According to reports, the Atlanta Hawks have agreed to trade center Dwight Howard and the 31st overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft to the Charlotte Hornets for shooting guard Marco Belinelli, center Miles Plumlee, and the 41st overall pick.

Although Howard had a solid statistical campaign with the Hawks (13.5 points, 12.7 rebounds per game), he simply didn’t fit well with power forward Paul Millsap (who the Hawks want the re-sign) and was making too much money to fit into Atlanta’s immediate plans.

The Hornets played a plethora of guys at center last season, including the likes of Spencer Hawes, Roy Hibbert, and Miles Plumlee. Sadly, nothing Charlotte tried ultimately worked, and the Hornets struggled mightily to protect the rim.

While Howard is obviously no longer the same player who won three consecutive Defensive Player Of The Year awards with the Orlando Magic, he’s still a large human being and is a far better option than anyone Michael Jordan and Co. currently have on the Hornets’ roster.
