Ice Cube Confirms Chauncey Billups Taking Cleveland Cavaliers Front Office Job

By Anthony Blake

It used to be that guys had to work their way up through the ladder to reach a general manager position in the front office of an organization, but those days have long since passed in the realm of professional sports.

And the latest example will be Chauncey Billups, if you believe Ice Cube all but confirming that he’s taken a position recently offered to him in the Cleveland Cavaliers front office.

Former Cavs GM David Griffin left the team in a bad way when he failed to reach a contract extension, but this is a big leap from experienced personnel guy to former player.

Guys in the NBA respect those who have been there and done that, so in that sense it’s a seamless transition for Billups.

Still, for a guy who was set to debut in the BIG3 alongside fellow players Stephen Jackson and Larry Hughes, as well as player/coach Charles Oakley, this is a serious change in career path.
