Iowa’s Basabe, Cartwright Earn All-Big Ten Honors
Iowa’s Melsahn Basabe and Bryce Cartwright both earned Big Ten honors Monday.
Basabe was recognized by both the league coaches and media as an All-Big Ten honorable mention. He was also named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team.
The freshman from Glen Cove, N.Y., started all 30 games for the Hawkeyes this season, averaging 11.2 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. He’s the first Iowa freshman to record more than 325 points, 200 rebounds and 40 blocks in a single season.
After Cully Payne went down with an injury, Cartwright stepped into the point guard role and performed extremely well.
The Junior College transfer from Compton, Calif., appeared in all 30 games, averaging 10.8 points and 5.9 assists per game.
