Following the release of the 2011 NCAA Tournament field, the opportunity for other programs to have their shot at a continued postseason comes into light.
The CBI, or College Basketball Invitational, is one of those fields. The 16-team tournament was announced on Monday, with the Oregon Ducks being labeled as the top team in the bracket.

Oregon, the lone representative from the power six conferences, finished the season up at 16-17 overall. Their season will continue in the CBI.

Outside of Oregon, Central Florida, Boise State, and Davidson will also be first-round hosts.

The tournament’s first round games will take place on Tuesday (3/15) and Wednesday (3/16), with four games each day.

Here are the first round match-ups:

Tuesday, March 15th:

James Madison (21-11) at Davidson (17-14), 7:00pm ET
San Jose State (17-15) at Creighton (19-14), 8:05pm ET
Hofstra (21-11) at Evansville (15-15), 8:05pm ET
Austin Peay (20-13) at Boise State (20-12), 9:00pm ET

Wednesday, March 15th:

Miami (OH) (16-16) at Rhode Island (19-13), 7:00pm ET
St. Bonaventure (16-14) at Central Florida (19-11), 8:00pm ET
Duquesne (18-12) at Montana (21-10), 9:05pm ET
Weber State (18-13) at Oregon (16-17), 10:00pm ET

The winners will advance to the quarterfinal round on March 21st. Semifinals will take place on March 23rd.

The interesting thing offered by the College Basketball Invitational is a best-of-three championship series. The championship series will take place on March 28th and March 30th. If necessary, a 3rd game would take place of April 1st.
