Tubby adds another prospect
Myron P. Medcalf reports Tubby Smith received a verbal commitment from Andre Ingram to play for the U next season. Ingram, a Minneapolis native, played for Butler Community College in Kansas last season where he averaged 14.3 points per game and shot 63% from the field.
At 6-foot-7, 235 pounds, Ingram is a power forward and is considered the replacement for recent transfer Colton Iverson. Ingram drew praise from his former coach for being a “no maintenance player.” His coach also said “we don’t have to worry about him going to class.” With the many off-the-court issues that have surrounded Gophers basketball the last few years, this had to be a selling point for Smith, who offered Ingram a scholarship after his visit to the U this weekend.
Ingram joins Smith’s 2011 recruiting class which already includes transfer point guard Julian Welch (Yuba Community College) and freshman shooting guards Joe Coleman and Andre Hollins. Ingram and Welch have two years of eligibility remaining.
