Coach K Wins No. 903, Passes Knight

Mike Krzyzewski passed Bobby Knight on the all-time wins list with victory No. 903 on Tuesday night against Michigan State from Madison Square Garden. The No. 6 Blue Devils moved to 3-0 after defeating Izzo’s Spartans (0-2) by five points, 74-69.

What a spectacle for Coach K and company? To reach this accomplishment at MSG, which is widely considered the greatest stage in the world, is the fairy tail ending most only dream of. His assistants (all former Duke standout players pictured above) shower him with praise as the all-time leader in wins for Division 1 basketball.

With the victory for Duke, they move to 3-0 and remain unbeaten as they continue to prepare for their ACC part of the schedule. Mike Krzyzewski now has 903 wins and is in first place all by himself after passing his mentor, Bobby Knight. With no end in sight, it will be interesting to see how many wins the Blue Devils leader can attain.

Anrde Dawkins led the way for both teams with 26 points and five boards. Seth Curry added 20 points of his own, while collecting five rebounds and dishing out three assists.

Michigan State was led by Keith Appling who scored 22 points and added three boards. Brandon Wood scored 15 points, alongside two boards and two assists.

Duke will return home for action Friday night against the Davidson Wildcats (2-0) at Cameron Indoor Arena. Krzyzewski will be looking for win No. 904 and his Blue Devils will be seeking their fourth straight victory to begin the 2011 season. Either way, they’re a great deal of expectations for a young bunch of basketball players in North Carolina…and I am not talking about the program in Chapel Hill.
