Mississippi State Stifles No. 16 Arizona
NEW YORK – The Mississippi State Bulldogs upset No. 16 Arizona, 67-57, for the 2K Coaches vs Cancer Classic Title from Madison Square Garden. MSU upset two ranked teams in two nights, after defeating No. 19 Texas A & M on Thursday. With the victory, the Bulldogs move their record to 4-1 on the young season.
Arnett Moultrie was the only MSU player to score in double figures. The forward recorded a double-double, as he scored 19 points and pulled down 10 boards. Dee Bost had an impressive line with eight points, five rebounds and six assists in the win.
Jesse Perry continues to shine for the Wildcats, grabbing his fourth double-double in only five games played this year. Perry scored 11 points, alongside his 10 rebounds. Solomon Hill led the Wildcats in scoring with 12 points and nine boards. With the loss, Arizona moves their record to 4-1 on the season.
After the Bulldogs went into the half leading by a single point, they turned up the pressure in the second half, outscoring Arizona 32-23. Mississippi State is a team to watch out for the SEC Conference this season, after upsetting back-to-back ranked teams on consecutive nights.
MSU (4-1) will get back to action on Monday night against UL-Monroe (0-3) for a 7:00 p.m. local time tip-off. The No. 16 Arizona Wildcats will be looking to avenge this tough loss against San Diego State (3-1) on Wednesday night from Tuscon. With the No. 1 ranked recruiting class due for Arizona next season, the Wildcats are a team opponents must take advantage of now, as MSU did, when they are still young and inexperienced.
