This post is part of The Arena Pulse’s Player of the Night feature.
Each morning throughout the 2011-12 season, The Arena Pulse will select and name its “Player of the Night” from the previous evening’s action.
With unknown expectations this season, the pair squared-off on Tuesday night, each looking for a quality, non-conference victory as league play closes in.
The winner of The Arena Pulse’s Player of the Night (12/20):
Name: Darien Brothers
Stat Line: 38 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal
Richmond held a 40-32 halftime advantage over their in-state rival on Tuesday night, but Old Dominion countered the deficit in the second half, pulling even at the final buzzer in regulation.
A high-scoring affair throughout, Richmond rallied for 18 points in the overtime frame before holding off the Monarchs, 90-82.
The Richmond starters combined for 80 of the team’s 90 points on Tuesday night and junior guard Darien Brothers was responsible for 38 in the victory.
Brothers shot 9-of-15 from the field, converting on 7-of-11 triples en-route to a new career-high. In addition to the guard’s efficient shooting, Brothers was a cool 13-of-14 from the charity line in the game.
Richmond (7-5) will now head west to take on UCLA (6-5). The game is schedule for a 10:30pm EST tip on Friday, Dec. 23.
