No. 7 Hawkeyes down Dayton Flyers 84-75 in First Round of NIT Bracket
The Iowa Hawkeyes may be in the NIT bracket, but there is no doubt they came out to play tonight against No. 2 Dayton full of adrenaline.
They played at home in front of a crowd of 13,000 plus. That had to have had something to do with helping the team to an 84-75 victory. The Hawkeyes have not seen any post season action in six years and they came out tonight to win.
The Hawkeyes wanted to be there.
Holding the Flyers 44-41 at the end of the first half really gave the impression that it was a very good match. But the momentum never left the Hawkeyes side. Being at home and having all the support of their fans was a huge difference in the upset they were able to pull of tonight.
Aaron White had 25 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists for the Hawkeyes. For the Dayton Flyers, Kevin Dillard had 23 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists.
The Flyers fall to 20-13 overall, 9-7 in conference while Iowa improves to 18-16, 8-10 in the Big Ten.
The Hawkeyes will advance and meet the winner of the LSU-Oregon game being played in Oregon tonight on ESPN.
