Not to be outdone by Shabazz Muhammad, Nerlens Noel also announced his college choice Wednesday night. The other top ranked recruit in the class of 2012, Noel picked Kentucky. Muhammad’s college choice can be found here.
Noel had interest in Syracuse and Georgetown. The 6’10 power forward/center from The Tilton School in Everett, Maryland will instantly bolster the defense. I remember hearing a quote about him and Anthony Davis. They said Davis was a shot blocking pro, but that Noel had made it an art form. That is high praise and I’m excited to see him play at the next level.
Plus, Noel has awesome hair. Even if he turns out to be a colossal bust, we can always enjoy his hair. It’s like Davis’s unibrow, only a lot cooler. Anyone that can rock that hairstyle is a winner in my book.
Noel will also face a bit of a learning curve. You normally do not come in to college and dominate from the opening tip. There is always an adjustment period. However, I expect Noel’s defense to be on point from the very start. He just has to remember to play with his feet and not his hands. Blocking shots is great, but they have to mean something. No need risking a foul just to get a block.
I am excited to watch his progress in college. He will also be a one and done with a bright NBA future. However, his play in college will be fun to watch. I know the fans of the Wildcats will enjoy him.
