There are plenty of “Call Me Maybe” parody videos out there now, but this past week Xavier head coach Chris Mack auditioned the hit song himself.
Alongside Mack, the cast includes his family and the team mascot…in a minivan.
While parody videos to hit pop songs might not be Mack’s true calling, his success on the court since taking over the Xavier program in 2009 has been evident. Mack has compiled a 50-19 record in three seasons at Xavier, which includes three trips to the NCAA Tournament and two Sweet 16 appearances.
As the summer drags on, college basketball coaches prowl the AAU circuit in search of high school prospects that may someday don their school’s jerseys. The summer circuit presents a long and hardworking time for many coaches across the country, but clearly Mack has found a way to create a lighter side to his off-season.
If the parody isn’t comical enough, the addition of Xavier’s “Blue Blob” mascot puts the icing on the cake. The over-sized mascot takes up a good amount of the backseat, but does not move throughout the entire video.
