The University of Arkansas-Little Rock Trojans men’s basketball team unveiled its 2012-13 college basketball schedule Friday. The reigning Sun Belt Conference West Division champions will start the season playing eight of their first 13 games at home.
The young Trojans come into the new season with six incoming freshmen and only two returning starts from last year’s team. Steve Shields returns as the head coach for his 10th season. Shields has led UALR to the most division titles (five) of any Sun Belt Conference school.
A highlight on the Trojans’ schedule is a trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for the 2012 Hoops for Hope Classic. The team opens up the season Friday, Nov. 9 when they play Tennessee-Martin at home. After that, it is two road games at Lousiana Tech and then Mississippi.
Ole Miss is a particularly tough match-up on the schedule along with Cincinnati. Both teams made it to post season play last year with the Bearcats in the NCAA Tournament and the Rebels finishing in the NIT. Those two schools are among four others that are on the Trojans’ schedule that played in the post season last year.
The season for UALR will conclude March 2 when the team plays Arkansas State.
The Sun Belt tournament will start March 8 at the Summit Arena in Hot Spring, Arkansas. The Trojans are hoping that this season could be their year to make it to the big dance.
