Nick Valvano: V Foundation CEO Will Step Down
Nick Valvano, the brother of late North Carolina State head coach Jim Valvano, will step down as the CEO of the V Foundation.
The V Foundation, which was announced back in 1993 during Jimmy V’s famous ESPY award speech, is dedicated to cancer research.
Since its creation, the V Foundation has raised over $120 million for cancer research. Nick has spent the past 13 years working as active CEO for the organization.
The V Foundation announced that Susan Braun will take over Valvano’s duties. Braun is the former president and CEO of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Over the past year, the V Foundation has helped raise approximately $14.4 million for research and continues to be the focal point of the annual Jimmy V Classic.
This upcoming season, the Jimmy V Classic will feature Valvano’s former team, North Carolina State. On Dec. 4, the Wolfpack will square off against Connecticut, while Georgetown and Texas will battle in the event’s other game. Both contests will take place at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Jim Valvano led North Carolina State to the 1983 national championship and during his 1993 ESPY speech, he inspired many with his famous line, “Don’t give up, don’t ever give up.”
