Kansas Hoops – Travel to Europe

Bill Self and his Kansas Jayhawks Men’s Basketball team are currently on a trip of a lifetime. For some of the young Jayhawks it may be their first time out of the United States. For others, it could very well be their final opportunity to leave the country. The Kansas Hoops team is on a nine day trip to Switzerland and France.

The Jayhawks will spend three nights in Zurich, Switzerland where they will play games against the Swiss National team on Tuesday and Wednesday. Then, the Jayhawks will travel to Paris France, where they will spend five nights. While in Paris, they will spend part of the time sightseeing, and also time playing basketball games.

The Jayhawks will play AMW Team Franceon two different occasions. This is all part of the Euro James Paris 2012 event. This runs from August 11th – 15th and also includes Virginia, Colorado and Penn State’s
women’s teams.

This is the fourth time Kansas has made a trip outside of the United States
for Men’s Basketball. This is the third time Coach Self has taken the squad. The Jayhawks have won 39 straight exhibition contests out of the country.

Kansas Hoops is playing it’s 10th season with Coach Self at the helm. The group that traveled across the ocean seems to have tons of talent. Jeff Withey, Elijah Johnson and Travis Releford appear to be the leaders. Jamari Taylor, Ben McLemore, Landen Lucas, Zach Peters, MiltonDoyle, Andrew White and Rio Adams are guys that will be battling for playing time, and will get a good jump start in Europe.

Coach Self was recently asked about the trip to Europe by a local newspaper and had this to say: “I think it’s great we get to play four games against quality competition while we’re over there, but more importantly, I think it’s going to be a great educational experience for our guys. Winning is always important, but having an opportunity to go to Switzerland and France and hang out in Paris will be memories that will last all our guys’ lifetime. I’m certainly excited for them to experience that, while at the same time, get our basketball team a little better.”

The Jayhawks official game dates and times:

August 7th, 7pm CST

August 8th, 10am CST

August 11th,1pm CST

August 12th,1pm CST
