After having travel delays – the Kansas basketball team beat the Swiss National team by three points on Tuesday.

The Jayhawks were supposed to leave Kansas Cityon Sunday for a 10 day trip to Switzerl and Paris. The plans were thwarted after they landed in Pittsburgh, they were informed that there was leak in the cockpit, and also weather was not conducive to playing onward to Washington D.C. After the delay in Pittsburgh, it was pretty obvious they were going to miss their flight to Zurich. After an “Amazing Race” like experience for the Jayhawks, the team was able to board a flight in Washington D.C. to get to Zurich, in time for the game on Tuesday afternoon. Washington D.C was the same airport in which the Jayhawks flew into when they visited Thomas Robinson and his family during his mother’s funeral in January of 2011.

When the team played the game itself, they got off to a slow start. The Jayhawks scored just 10 points in the first quarter; turning the ball over 12 times. Both teams picked up the pace in the second half, and it was 30-30 going into the locker room. Kansas scored 27 third quarter points and took a 57-49 lead into the final quarter of play. The Jayhawks then led by 17 late in the game, before the Swiss team made a furious comeback, only to fall three points short.Kansas ended up winning the game 79-76.

The Jayhawks were led in scoring by big man Jeff Withey’s 12 points. Elijah Johnson and Travis Releford added 11 points, while Andrew White scored 10. The Jayhawks made just 3 of 15 three point shots in the game. Kansas also turned the ball over 28 times. All 15 players on the Kansas roster played in the game. Withey led the team in 10 rebounds, as the Jayhawks dominated the boards with 59, while the Swiss team anchored down 30.

Kansas will stay in Switzerland for another exhibition game before heading to Paris to play two more games, and do some sight seeing.
