Kansas State: 10 day trip to Brazil

Bruce Weber and his Kansas State Wildcats are ready for a 10 day trip toe Brazil. The Wildcats arrived in Sao Paulo early on Thursday. This is a long-awaited trip which allowed Kansas State to have several practices during the off-season.

The team took a flight from Kansas City to Atlanta, and then traveled form there to Sao Paulo in what was a 10 hour flight. Coach Bruce Weber had this to say about the opportunity: “This is an exciting and important time for our team,”

The Wildcats are expected to play five games when out of the country. They will play against a Brazilian club team in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Sao Paulo is the largest city in Brazil, while Rio de Janeiro is the host of the 2014 World Cup and also the 2016 Summer Games.

Kansas State will play their first game on Friday at 3:30pm CSTagainst Sao Jose Dos Campos. They will then play the next day against Mogi Das Cruzes
at 3:00pm CST. Their final game in Sao Paulo will be on Sunday as they take on Pingdamonhagaba bright and early; at 9:00am.

When they arrive in Rio de Janeiro, the team will play on Monday and Wednesday. Monday, the Wildcats take on Tijuca at 4:00pm CST and then follow that up with a game on Wednesday against Botafogo at 4:00pm CST. Every four years the NCAA allows schools to take a trip to another country. The last time Kansas State left the country was in 2004, when they went to British Columbia.

The Wildcats will get a chance to know each other, but more importantly their coach will get to know them. Most of last year’s team returns, including Rodney McGruder and Jordan Henriquez. The Wildcats are coming off a NCAA tournament appearance the past five seasons. Kansas State won 22 games in the final season for Frank Martin, before he took the same position at South Carolina. Bruce Weber was fired at Illinois before being hired in Manhattan.
