Patterson reportedly cleared the academic hurdles to attend a four-year school, but failed to meet the specific academic standards for this fall semester. This leaves the 6-foot-2 guard the option of either attending another four-year institution or enrolling at prep school for the 2012-13 season.
According to a report from the Indy Star, Patterson may be nearing a decision and an update on his future could even come as soon as Friday.
The report indicated that Patterson would likely attend Brewster Academy (NH), if he makes the decision to go prep.
However, things at the moment remain up in the air, and as the Indianapolis-native mulls over his options, other schools are beginning to express interest. The Indy Star listed Purdue, Louisville, Missouri, Ohio State, Illinois, IUPUI, Memphis, Providence, Villanova, Xavier, Lamar, Southern Miss, Wright State, Dayton, Nevada, and Florida Gulf Coast, as those school that have already called.
By way of Broad Ripple H.S. (IN), Patterson had been committed to Indiana for two years prior to Wednesday’s news. In fact, Patterson had verbally committed to the Hoosiers two years to the day prior to Wednesday (Aug. 15).
As we await news on Patterson’s decision moving forward, Indiana fans still have plenty to look forward to as expectations for a national championship run are on the table in 2012-13.
If Patterson does decided to head to prep school this season, the option of re-enrolling at IU will present itself next year.
