Florida Gators Basketball: Can the Gators Make Another Run in the Dance?

By Trevor Lowry

The 2012-13 college basketball season hasn’t even started yet, but one question is lingering for Florida Gators fans: Can the Gators make another run in the dance this year?

There is only one answer to this question and it is a definite yes.

The Gators are returning Patric Young, Kenny Boynton and Erik Murphy from last year’s starting five. Not to mention, Will Yeguette and Casey Prather are returning back to the team and both players are capable of starting this year.

Florida also has two really talented freshman joining the team in Braxton Ogbueze and Michael Frazier. However, you can’t forget about Mike Rosario and Scottie Wilbekin who will also play huge roles for this team.

Unlike last year’s team, who lived and died by the three-ball, this Gators team will have a very good front court. Young is getting better and better and when he is actually one of the go-to guys next season for Florida, his numbers are going to skyrocket. Keep in mind that Young averaged 10.2 points per game and 6.4 rebounds per game last season.

Young may only stand at 6’9”, but he is going to be one of the best big men in the SEC this season.

For all of the fans who loved seeing the Gators drain threes left and right last season, please don’t front because this Gators team will be lethal from behing the arc as well. Boynton and Murphy are going to shoot a great deal of three-pointers this season and that is just how it is going to be.

The Missouri Tigers and Texas A&M Aggies joining the SEC this year will only be a blessing for the Gators because it will be two more teams that will help them prepare for the Big Dance. Not to mention, if Florida can win games against those two teams, it will only help out their seeding.

The Kentucky Wildcats may be the team to beat in the conference, but Florida is not too far behind them.

The Gators have been able to make it all of the way to the Elite Eight the past two seasons with teams that no one expected to make it that far. Well, everyone is expecting it in the 2012-13 season and Florida most likely won’t disappoint.

This is a Final Four team and you better believe that the Florida Gators will make another run in the NCAA tournament this year.
